Big Forest by ShadowKiwi Big Forest by ShadowKiwi
Hi! This is my second submission for the werewolf calendar contest. :devwerewolf-calender:. This time I went with a simpler theme, but with emphasis on focus of the surroundings. It started out small and got big! I can't tell you how many backgrounds and poses were recycled to get it just right. Anyway, it seems when I expose my paints, I get used to it after awhile and expose it some more. So it's sort of an explosion of color. Hey, feel free to tell me if it works or not! Critiques welcome.

There have been so many submissions though, I think this was in vain. I'm not near the levels of some of the other artists, but I atleast get to rub shoulders with them for a little while.

:iconwolfplz:I hope you enjoy it anyway! No reason to stop painting.

Wow.
This is amazing, and now I am going to be a critic now.
This would be one of my favorite wolf paintings ever. Now that is because honestly, most of the "artists" that their drawings are ones that reflect of of little TwiTard fangirl drawings that get nosebleeds over another wolf drawing.
Needless to say, great artwork, and things like this is what keeps me on DA in the first place. Thank you very much and this is an instant favorite..!

Keep up the good work!

Ahh, wow! I'm flattered you think it's that good :)
I agree, some spiritualism is pretty important in art.
Thank you!

Ooh! the picture has like dreamy athmosphere. I really like how you made backround. Color of the water looks a bit suspicious, it is probably really deep or it is poisonous, but it is good that it is dark. easier to see that way.
Wolf looks great too!
How many hours did you use doing this picture?

Thank you! I thought black waters looked kind of natural, but I suppose they look suspicious too :D Let's see, I think I spent about.. Between 10 and 20 hours, I would say.

I  the colors! They're so vibrant and engaging! It makes me feel like I'm some kind of magical forest where everything is alive. Well I mean, in a real forest everything is alive, too, but this feels ... more alive. Like I can see the spirit of every rock, tree, and blade of grass. :D I am terrible at environments and can't do them, so I really admire your work into this. It must have taken a long time, it paid off in the end, it's beautiful :floating:

Of particular love are the mushrooms :giggle:

The wolf adds a nice accent to the piece, too, I especially love the bluish light you put on its right arm. And the streams of light flowing into the picture are nice, too .. ahh I don't want to go on too much, just great job and good luck in the contest!

Thanks!! I was afraid I overdid it.. :D I think it's really cool that you see that! I mean, I like that you like it.
The mushrooms are so goofy, yet necessary xD
Thanks about the rays and coloring. As always, I appreciate your two cents on this! :aww:

This is excellent, especially the werewolf! My only complaint is that the background, primarily the setting across the river, is hard to make out. But other than that, it is pretty cool! I especially love how the eyes stick out; they pierce my soul. :fear:

Thinking about reusing an older background, this one. [link] What do you think?

I think I actually like the original better than that one. :o

Thanks! It helps that you point that out. I worked that background so much, I eventually collapsed in a pile of steam and accepted what I had there. I wondered if viewers would see that too, from what you're telling me it seems so. I would ask for suggestions normally, but I think it's too much to do right now. :XD:

Hmm, in the older background the werewolf definitely stands out more, but I think compositionally the space on the left leaves a void that the newer BG fixes. I think the newer BG works much better as a whole painting, but if you want the werewolf to stand out more the older BG does that, but then you might want to add something on the left so there isn't so much empty space.

Yes, that was what took the most time on this picture. Place lots of focus on the wolf-but leave a void- or make the whole aesthetically pleasing but sort of engulf the wolf. I rather like the old bg, but the void was the biggest part that I tried to fix for hours but never could. Thanks a lot for helping me on this! I'll have to make the decision soon.
